When there is more than one source of truth, and they differ, there is no truth.

It is critical that we make it clear where we can find the latest version, the approved version otherwise if there are more than once source of information and they differ or we cant tell them apart we do not know the truth.

We used to put files into a folder, now we put folder names “metadata” into the file details

One of “Tonys Conceptual Leaps” on organising documents, such as in SharePoint.

Is it time to attack the man not just his ideas ?

In light of The Abbott government’s chief business adviser Maurice Newman’s latest contribution to the national debate urges us to prepare for global cooling. Global warming has supposedly paused for the past 18 years and Newman’s preferred scientific advisers believe we are now entering a long-term cooling phase. His argument neatly highlights a fundamental failure in our national governance.

All the evidence indicates that the world is warming far faster than previously expected, the major cause almost certainly being human carbon emissions from fossil fuel combustion. Warming has not paused for the last 18 years

If an individual with a little research and some concern can see quite clearly how these political Government Appointees know nothing about climate change and are fools, Then what about their so called areas of expertise ? Can we even believe them on business, the economy, employment, productivity and profits when they demonstrate such ignorance in other areas of understanding ? Perhaps they are just total frauds, because surely they would never speak so firmly and confidently about what they do not know ?, Or could it be that they speak firmly about everything, when they know nothing? Anyone sufficiently well informed will reject their false claims, but not everyone is well informed,

Let us not just show how easy it is to debunk their climate claims, but I suggest its time to look more closely at their claims in their areas of expertise, because I find it hard to imagine such incompetence, ignorance, delusions or potentially corruption is not demonstrable in the rest of their public pronouncements.

I do not naturally “Attack the Man” and prefer to challenge their ideas, but if they wish to claim authority and power and talk out of there expertise let us shine a light on the men who would influence us.

My Talk, Free Will, Determinism, and Indeterminism

Sydney’s Philosophy in the Café – Philo Agora

Second Wednesday of the month. 7 for 7:30 at Abla Pastry, 425 New Canterbury Rd, Dulwich Hill.

Wednesday, July 9th, Tony Muscio on Free Will, Determinism, and Indeterminism.

In Tony’s last talk he presented an argument for the existence of free will. In this talk he will take this further but suggest we do not have as much free will as we think. In fact he will present an argument that this is in our best interest. He will also tackle the apparent dichotomy between determinism and indeterminism, and suggest the universe can be both simultaneously.

Tony is an IT Professional with a life long interest in science and philosophy.  Interested in always learning from others, Tony also believes we can all contribute something new to the human endeavor.  An active particpant in Philoagora, Tony also belongs to other organisations, promoting sustainable practices and developing ideas and methods for the promotion of progressive change.

Philo Agora’s format is a talk for 20 minutes starting at 7:30. The presenter then answers any questions of clarification from the floor. We then take a break of 5 to 10 minutes for more coffee and to mull over the talk and discuss it within small groups. The microphone is then passed around the audience for comment, opinion, and often counter argument to a maximum of 2 minutes. The presenter is then given a 5 minute right of reply. We usually finish up at 9pm.

Come early from 6:30pm and join the regulars in a pastry and coffee before the presentation. The cost of the night is $8 which includes your first cup of coffee or tea.

We look forward to your attendance and participation.

With Telstras Recent Announcement now is the time to learn about FON

Telstra plans $100m user-driven Wi-Fi network

Telstra has announced a $100 million project to build one of the world’s largest Wi-Fi networks, with the goal of having two million domestic hotspots active nationwide within five years. The network, which Telstra aims to launch in early 2015, will use its broadband customers’ own Wi-Fi modems for the bulk of domestic connectivity. It will also encompass access to around 12 million overseas hotspots operated by Wi-Fi provider Fon.

What is Fon?

Fon is your Global WiFi Network.
It’s built by people just like you.

Fon members share a bit of their home WiFi, and in turn get free access at millions of other Fon hotspots worldwide.

Joining is easy. All you have to do is buy a Fon WiFi router and plug it into your broadband connection. No monthly fees!

Or, if you live in a country where Fon has a telco partner, just sign up with them to become a member.

Where to from here ?

I will keep my eye out for progress on this and let you no what I learn. Just follow this blog. I already have ideas how to redeploy your existing Wi-Fi Router if you need a new one to participate.

The Expert (Short Comedy Sketch)

This is the best poetic representation I have ever seen that illustrates my lifetime career in Information technology. As an “expert” more often than not we have to deal with the the lack of understanding of our customers. It is not as simple as them not understanding our specialty but often it is they do not understand their own field. Now this could be very difficult to demonstrate to the non expert but this great and funny clip replaces the requirements with plain English so that non experts can hear how it sounds to the expert. The customer is asking for something that expert knows is not possible but pragmatic business people, you know often the ones that say they use their gut instinct, insist the expert deliver something which is impossible. If you have an expert, engineers, specialist or even medical person in your life listen to this video all the way through and you will be better able to empathize with there view point.
